Our Philosophy
We are a small, very happy school with high academic standards, and a belief that all children need to be given the opportunity to excel in whichever field they are talented, be it academic, sporting, musical or artistic.
We care for every child and their development, helping them to discover their talents and to reach their potential.
We value every child as a unique individual, with great potential. We look closely at each child’s starting place and building on that.
We receive children into school with different experiences, capabilities, maturity levels, age and interests. They develop different skills at different times; therefore our teachers are sensitive to this fact, giving support, encouragement and input at appropriate times to encourage and develop learning and progression.
Equal emphasis is placed on all children becoming literate, numerate and articulate. We firmly believe that learning should be stimulating and enjoyable.
We provide an environment which lays the foundations for reaching the potential, which is within each child. The key stone depends on how we give the child the confidence and self esteem to become a motivated learner. Developing positive attitudes, extending concentration levels and involvement, alongside the development of basic skills underpins the aims of all our classes.
We encourage children to know themselves, so they are accepted and included for who they are.
We believe children to be active learners and therefore the topics we present to them reflect their interest in the world around them, and include imaginative play. We find successful learning takes place when it is part of a rich context of experience that makes sense to the learner.
We consider school/home links to be of vital importance to a child's development and we look for ways to strengthen them.
The school has a Christian ethos, but we respect, value and include different beliefs and cultures.
Below are some of the comments parents have made about our School:
"His learning has taken a steep rise since nursery. His interest in reading and writing is lovely to observe as well as his painting, drawing and singing."
"The ethos of encouraging the children to do things is something we feel is so important."
"We received excellent high quality feedback on what he knows, understands and can do, based on a carefully observed and detailed picture of him, and linked clearly to the Foundation stage profile and Early Years goals."
"We found parents' evening to be very comprehensive covering all aspects of his development, not just the academic side. I was particularly interested to see that the teachers had really picked up on his character and personality and used this to move him on in the best way so that he was happy and enjoyed the challenges set. I also found the teachers interest in how he was developing his social skills very reassuring."
"We always come away from meeting a teacher saying 'what a lovely school he is in and didn't we make the right choice!'"
